Earth Day is a global event, and even now in its 48th year, the Day has touched more than one billion people in 192 countries around the world.
If you want to get involved in the festivities this April 22 and give a little bit back to good ol' Mother Earth, here are three eco-friendly organizations that can use some volunteers.
Missouri Coalition for the Environment
Founded in 1969, the Missouri Coalition for the Environment (MCE) works to bring Missourians clean water, clean air, clean energy, and a healthy environment by bringing about changes in state legislation.

While they're always looking for event assistance, especially in the springtime, this is a great organization to get involved with if you don't enjoy getting your hands dirty.
They need volunteers in the following office and clerical positions:
- Data entry & IT
- Website content & graphic design
- Social media/outreach/networking
Follow them on Facebook for all the events they'll be involved with this Spring.
Gateway Greening
Gateway Greening is a passionate organization that uses gardening and urban agriculture to strengthen communities.
Through their School and Community Garden programs, they've grown over 200 gardens in the Greater St. Louis area.
As Spring approaches, volunteers are needed to prep the community gardens. This includes:
- Adding soil and mulch
- Cleaning up trash
- Clearing away last year's plants
View their Facebook page for updates on community education events.
St. Louis Earth Day
St. Louis Earth Day is one of the largest Earth Day celebrations in the country, impacting over one million individuals annually.
This festival is an opportunity to learn about sustainable products and services offered by local businesses, meet local area non-profits, and enjoy local entertainment.
They need volunteers in all areas, including:
- Event set up/take down
- Info and merch booth attendants
- Recycling on-the-go
- Bicycle valet parking
Visit them on Facebook for updates on the event, as well as other ways they work to strengthen the St. Louis community.
