Have you ever wondered what it might be like to visit one of the prestigious ice festivals held around the world? Well now, you don't have to because there's one right here in St. Charles! It's called Fete de Glace St. Charles Ice Carving Competition.
If you're interested in embracing the winter cold with this icy event, learn more about it below!
When and Where
The Fete de Glace St. Charles Ice Carving Competition will take place on January 25 between the 100 and 200 blocks of N. Main Street in Historic St. Charles. The carving will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the event will close around 3:30 in the afternoon. Best of all, it's free for everyone to attend!
There will be fire pits, hot chocolate, and coffee to keep you cozy warm for the whole day!
The Ice Carving Competition
Some of the best ice sculptors from our city and the surrounding areas will pack into two city blocks in Historic St. Charles. Each of them will be given one 260-pound block of ice to begin their sculptures. Where it goes from there is up to their imagination!
You can watch as the artists use chainsaws, chisels, grinders and knives to chip away at their creations. They'll even have hot irons and cold spray, which will help them bend the ice to their will! In years past, we've seen everything from life-like animals and mythical creatures to airplanes and comic-book creations!
The carving will begin at 9:00 a.m. and it will last until noon. At that time, you'll be able to cast votes for your favorite ice sculptures. Then, at 3:30 p.m., the winner of the Fete de Glace St. Charles Ice Carving Competition will be announced!
What Else is There to Do?
If you're looking to start the day off right with a hearty breakfast, you'll want to stop at Picasso's Coffee House for breakfast. They have locally roasted coffee, hearty sandwiches, and baked goods fresh out of the oven.
When you need a moment to warm up throughout the day, there are a variety of quaint shops along N. Main Street. Stop in and say hello!
