Drivers who come to St. Charles Nissan from the St. Charles, St. Louis, O'Fallon, and Saint Peters areas often ask us a lot of questions about what their dashboard lights indicate. The lights on your dashboard are a wonderful tool that allow your vehicle to communicate with you. Sometimes, though, interpreting all of those symbols can require help, which is why we've provided you with this Nissan Murano dashboard symbol guide!

Warning and Indicator Lights

You're driving down the road and suddenly a warning light comes on. Usually colored red, these flashing lights are meant to get your attention. Don't let them frighten you; if you're familiar with your light guide, you'll know what they mean and how easily they can be fixed. These are not to be confused with indicator lights, which are typically intended to alert you to normal functions in your vehicle.

There are quite a few of each, so let's dive in!

Seat Belt Warning Light: Someone in the car doesn't have their seatbelt on; a chime may accompany the light.

Power Steering Warning Light: Usually pictured as a box with PS inside it, this means your power steering may be malfunctioning. Visit your technician for assistance.

ABS Warning Light: This one will usually just appear as ABS, and it indicates that your Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) isn't functioning properly. However, your regular brakes should still be functional if this light is on.

Brake Warning Light: Usually pictured as simply the word BRAKE inside a box, this is a warning that your brakes are malfunctioning in some way. If this is the case, don't drive your car-seek assistance right away.

Low Tire Pressure Light: Pictured as an exclamation point surrounded by parentheses, this light tells you to pull over and check your tire pressure. Be sure not to put it off, as driving on a flat can cause damage to your car.

Charge Warning Light: Your battery may be malfunctioning. Turn off all nonessential electronics and pull over now. If you do not turn off nonessential electronics, it may interfere with your battery's charging ability.

Airbag Indicator: This works as part of your Murano dashboard light's occupant sensors. If there's no one in the passenger seat, this indicator will be off. If it's on, it means the front passenger airbag will be enabled should you be in an accident.

High Beam Indicator: This light alerts you when you have your high beams turned on. It will turn off automatically when the high beams are disengaged, but if it doesn't, consult your technician.

Security Indicator: This is a positive sign, indicating that your Nissan Murano's security system is enabled.

Slip Indicator: Like many cars, the Nissan Murano uses a Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help you control the vehicle. If this warning light is on steadily, it may indicate that the VDC is malfunctioning. See us if the problem persists.

Other Warning Lights

Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light: This may indicate that you have lost oil pressure. Pull over and call a towing company immediately, and bring your Murano to a dealership for repair if necessary.

Low Fuel Warning Light: Pictured as a gas station pump, this is probably the easiest indicator to fix. Find the nearest service station and fill your tank up ASAP.

Door Open Warning Light: This means that one or more of your doors is not securely closed; pull over and make sure none of them are ajar.
